Randy Stonehill is a legendary performer, songwriter, producer, and recording artist. He is a 2008 GMA
Gospel Music Hall of Fame Nominee. He first took to melding his honest lyrics of faith, struggle and hope
with rootsy folk-rock music in 1970 under the tutelage of his friend and fellow Jesus Rocker Larry Norman.
Alongside a small cadre of Christian artists considered too "Christian" for the mainstream and too "Rock and
Roll" for the church, Stonehill blazed trails that are now easily traveled by Christian musicians,
influencing countless young fans and future artists along the way. To this day live audiences pack into
churches, schools and theaters where the songsmith leaves them laughing, thinking and humming all at once,
night after night.
Stonehill's long string of acclaimed recordings continues to grow. 2002's Edge Of The World brought together a number of fellow Jesus Music veterans including Phil Keaggy, Barry McGuire, Noel Paul Stookey, Love Song, Phil Madeira, Mike Roe, Russ Taff, Sara Groves, and Larry Norman. This album marked the first time Stonehill and Norman appeared together on a recording since 1980. In 2006 Keaggy and Stonehill released Together Live on DVD and CD in support of the Compassion International Christian relief agency with which both men have long been associated. Keaggy joined Stonehill for a few tracks on 2006's Touchstone, a stripped down re-recording of several Stonehill classics with a "Randy in your living room" feel. The two veterans also recorded Mystery Highway, a 60's rock CD due for release in 2009. Stonehill's "Paradise Sky" arrives December 26, 2008. These fresh studio recordings of 11 classic songs from the 70's will be used in the documentary film "Fallen Angel: The Outlaw Larry Norman" directed by David DiSabatino. He is also in the studio recording a CD of new songs that have become recent concert favorites, such as Life Is Tough, God Is Good.
"The past few years have been a rich season of challenge and growth for me. This "troubling of the
waters" in my life has in turn become the catalyst for some of the best work of my career. Time's
steady march reminds me that there is more of the road behind me now then there is ahead of me on my
journey. That reality brings the privilege of participating in God's Kingdom work through my artistic
gifts into ever sharper focus. I have a fresh passion and a sense of urgency of my call; my music. The
wrestling with my own humanity and faith adventure spur me on to try to write songs of beauty that are
anchored in biblical truths. They are like musical snapshots of the hope, mystery and joy of my
Christian experience and I share them in the hope that they might be some small gift of encouragement to
others. There's almost nothing more powerful than a story worth telling, told well. For 37 years I
have been striving to do just that. That goal keeps me stretching for the next artistic high water
mark.
From the beginning of my new life in Christ, it was clear to me that Jesus is intimately acquainted with and profoundly relevant to every facet of our humanity and our culture. It struck me that the most constructive thing to do with my talents was to write songs that would portray that truth. I believe that music is endowed with something akin to a spiritual property. It has a way of circumventing the armor of the human heart and speaking deeply to our souls. In the process simple stories framed in song bring Jesus into closer proximity to us. Music is a gift from Heaven and I'm convinced that God created it not only as a tool for worship but as a vehicle to bring joy to his children and communicate his timeless truth." Randy Stonehill
